When Samuel arrived at Jesse’s house, God had already made His choice. But even the prophet got it wrong. He looked at Eliab — tall, strong, kingly in appearance — and thought, ‘Surely this is the Lord’s anointed.’ God’s response cuts through every human assumption about worthiness: ‘The LORD sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart.’ David wasn’t even in the room.
