An Easy Yoke

At Jerusalem, Peter warned against placing on Gentile disciples a yoke that, in his words, “neither we nor our fathers have been able to bear.” Jesus offers his own yoke, and he calls it easy.

Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

Jesus does not tell tired people to carry nothing. He offers them his own yoke, and he says it is easy.

Nothing To Grab

Jacob spent much of his life taking what he wanted. He bought his brother's birthright with a bowl of stew, and he took his father's blessing by wearing his brother's clothes. At Peniel he held on to God instead.

The blessing you need has already been given. It came through the body of Jesus. You do not have to earn it or prove that you deserve it.

Set a timer for ten minutes so you do not have to watch the clock.

Open your hands and rest them on your knees, palms up. Say once, aloud or silently: Jesus, you said, “My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

Then stop talking. If your mind reaches for something to fix or finish, let it go and open your hands again.

When the timer ends, do not grade how it went.
