ABOUT THIS SERIES
Two passages that get quoted at frightened people, read slowly enough to find out what they actually say. The command in Matthew 6:33 is continuous and plural. The promise attached to it is in the passive voice, which means the supplying was never your job. And the Hebrew word for the faith you are asked to live by turns out to mean firmness — its plainest use in Scripture describes a pair of tired arms held up by two other men until sunset.
For anyone lying awake running numbers they cannot change tonight. This week does not promise that the thing you are waiting for is coming, and it does not explain the silence. It names once, and plainly, how these verses have been used to shame people for being afraid — then spends five days on what they are really doing. It ends on a garrison rather than a rescue.
