Five days, two passages, and one adjective at the end of it: enough. Not abundant, not resolved — the exact amount required for one day, which is the only unit anybody was ever given.

Opening
Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

The last verse of the passage this week has been reading, and the one it has been walking toward.
Six days ago this reading started with an order — seek first — and a promise in the passive voice.
It has gone through a word for anxiety that Paul uses as a compliment. Through a prophet on a wall who was given a timetable with no dates. Through a curtain torn from the far side. Through a garrison that faces inward as well as out.
And the passage itself ends on this adjective. Sufficient. Enough.
Not abundant, and not resolved. Enough — the exact amount required, and no more, for one day.
That is a strange note for a promise to end on, and it is the honest one. Jesus does not close this teaching by saying tomorrow will be good. He says today already contains its full allocation of trouble, and that this is the reason not to go and collect tomorrow’s as well.
Which is a limit, and limits are a kindness when you are carrying too much. You were given one day. It has enough in it. It also, by the same arithmetic, has enough provision in it, which is the point of the manna and the point of the prayer for daily bread.
Today gathers the week up. Tomorrow the reading stops entirely, which is the last thing this passage has to teach.
It is worth saying what this week did not do, because that is part of what it was.
It did not explain suffering. It did not promise that the thing you are waiting for is coming, and it did not put a date on anything. Wednesday stood in the gap and stayed there rather than talking its way out.
What it did instead was smaller and, hopefully, more durable. It took four words that get quoted at anxious people and showed what they actually say. It found the word for faith and discovered it means firmness. It followed a torn curtain to an open door. And it ended on a garrison rather than a rescue.

Five days ago this was two passages you could read in a minute. Here is what they turned out to be carrying, in the order the week unfolded. One of these rows is probably the reason this series found you.
DAY 1
The command is a present imperative and it is plural — keep seeking, together. The promise is passive: it will be added, by someone who is not you. Most of what goes wrong with this verse comes from taking on both halves.

DAY 2
The verb in “be anxious for nothing” is the same one Paul uses as a compliment about Timothy, and the same one Jesus says gently to Martha by name. It was never handed to you as a rebuke. Paul’s sentence has a “but” in the middle, and everything after it is the instruction.

DAY 3
Habakkuk accused God of not listening, climbed a tower, and was given a timetable with no dates on it — and one assurance: though it lingers, it is not lying to you. The word for faith there is emunah, firmness, the same word used for Moses’ arms held up by two men until sunset.

DAY 4
Immovable things are normally far away. Deuteronomy 32:4 calls God a rock and faithful in the same sentence, and the temple curtain was torn from the top down — from the end no one could reach. Direct access, because of one Mediator rather than instead of one.

DAY 5
Peace here means wholeness, not calm — all the essential parts joined together. And the verb is a garrison, which both keeps the enemy out and keeps the people inside from fleeing. You may have been kept without being rescued, and not counted it.

You seek. He adds. He already knows what you need — and the verse says so two lines before the part everybody quotes.
What Held The Week Together
Three threads ran under all five days. They are worth naming, because they are the part that survives the week.
DAY 1
Seeking is yours and continuous. Adding is God’s and passive. Nearly every anxious reading of Matthew 6:33 comes from a person quietly taking on both jobs and then grading themselves on the one that was never theirs.

DAY 2
Emunah means steadiness before it means belief, and its plainest occurrence is a pair of tired arms held up by two other people. Which means faith was never a feeling you generate alone against the evidence. It is a position held, often by being held.

DAY 3
The fear was about supply. David’s prayer relocates the question rather than answering it: everything you have ever had already came from there, including the strength you have been using to worry about whether more will come.

Follow the Habakkuk 2:4 line through the New Testament: Romans 1:17, then Galatians 3:11, then Hebrews 10:38. One sentence given to a man on a wall, picked up three times by writers building the gospel on it. Read each in its own context and watch what each writer does with the word.

On the translation seam
Matthew 6:27 is a good place to see honest translators disagree. Compare the King James (“one cubit unto his stature”), the American Standard (“one cubit unto the measure of his life”) and the Berean Standard (“a single hour to his life”) side by side. The Greek word hēlikia genuinely carries both height and lifespan — this is not a case of one version being wrong.

If You Only Keep One Thing
Five days is a lot to carry. If everything else goes, these three sentences are the week, and each one is anchored in a word that was checked rather than assumed.
DAY 1
“Shall be added” is a passive verb with an unnamed actor, and in a sermon about a Father who already knows what you need, the actor is obvious. You were given the seeking. You were never given the supplying, and grading yourself on it has only made you tired.

DAY 2
Emunah is steadiness before it is belief, and its plainest use in Scripture describes Moses’ arms being held up by Aaron and Hur. You are not required to manufacture certainty against the evidence. You are required to stay in place, and you are allowed to be held there.

DAY 3
The peace that guards is a garrison, and a garrison stops the people inside from fleeing as well as stopping the enemy getting in. If you look back on a hard stretch and find no rescue but discover you did not leave — that is the promise, delivered, in the form the text actually describes.
